Module overview

Welcome to Nutrition, Communication and Social Inclusion module.
Food aid programmes support people all over the world, with different needs, contexts, and specificities. In an increasingly diverse world, it is essential to know how to intervene with intercultural communities and how to assess the different factors that can affect dietary habits and have implications for the overall health and well-being. The aim is to meet the needs of the beneficiaries/households in the best way possible, through the evaluation of individual needs and different factors such as religion, culture, environment, health, among others. In addition, the impact of beneficiaries’ or households’ culinary skills on eating habits should also be a factor to be considered.
Work with people of different backgrounds, ages, beliefs, and habits means that communication is one of the most important tools for professionals and volunteers in their day-to-day work.
The use of inclusive and plain language has been highlighted by the social character of language and its role in shaping cultural and social attitudes and as a tool for inclusion. The aim is to ensure that all people feel respected and included. This module seeks to highlight the importance of communication processes in food aid programmes, as well as providing important strategies and tips for successful communication, avoiding stereotypes and discriminatory language.
