The Sustainable Food Aid Provision module was developed by the Center for Social Innovation, in Cyprus.

Welcome to Sustainable Food Aid Provision module.

This module is inherently connected to sustainability as it seeks to highlight the vital role of sustainable practices in securing the availability of food aid resources for future generations. The module consists of three units aimed at providing a comprehensive understanding of sustainability and food-aid programmes. Unit 1 provides the fundamental concepts of sustainability, including its three pillars and their alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals. Additionally, a distinction between food waste and food loss is explored, emphasising their significant implications. Moving on to Unit 2, we examine the organisational structure of food assistance programmes, with a particular focus on food banks. This section explains the essential components and operational complexities of food banks, along with their significance and target audience statistics in the current landscape.

Finally, Unit 3 establishes a crucial link between food sustainability and food safety. Through an exploration of their principles and interdependence, learners will gain insights into the integral role of both aspects in ensuring a resilient and equitable food system.
