Aim and Learning objectives

The aim of the “Sustainable Food Aid Provision” module is to equip learners with a thorough understanding of sustainability and food aid programmes, emphasising the importance of tackling food waste, organising food banks effectively, and recognising the interplay between food sustainability and safety.

• Define sustainability, food waste, and food aid programs, highlighting their roles in addressing global food insecurity.
• Explore the three pillars of sustainability and their relevance to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
• Differentiate between food waste and food loss, assessing their environmental, economic, and societal impacts.
• Analyse the structure and function of food aid programs, including the components and operations of food banks.
• Identify the characteristics and significance of food banks in mitigating food waste and combating hunger in communities.
