Topic 2.7: Transition from Rural producer to future urban consumer

Transformation focuses on improving resource efficiency in food processing across food supply chains, as this is an essential part of delivering food to more people with reduced inputs. Reducing GHG, water consumption and food waste will be essential, and the integration of smarter design and logistics planning into supply chains are required to achieve this.

The food security situation for a projected global population of 8-9 billion people in 2050 will demand the production of more food using even lower energy inputs within current land use limits food processors and manufacturers must become more aware of the whole food system and supply chains as a whole, so much so that it will be a requirement since consumers are changing their lifestyles, expectations and demand for specific foods
