Topic 1.1: What types of vehicles are used to transport food?

NGOs/institutions that provide food aid usually use minivans or passenger cars. Regardless of what type of transport is used, it is important to transport food in containers, boxes, and thermo boxes.

In addition, it is necessary that the means of transport:

  • is kept clean (clean the inside thoroughly, including disinfection if possible). If the car is also used to transport other goods/various types of food, it should be thoroughly cleaned between transports,
  • is kept in good technical condition.

It should also be remembered that vehicles used to transport food should, whenever possible, be adapted to maintain the proper temperature of stored food.
