Food Groups

There are 5 main food groups. Each food group consists of food items that provide similar amounts of nutrients.

  1. Fruit & Vegetables
  2. Grains (Bread, rice, potatoes, pasta, and other starchy carbohydrates)
  3. Dairy foods and alternatives
  4. Legumes (beans), fish, eggs, meat, and other non-dairy sources of protein
  5. Oils and spreads
