Module overview

The Food storage and food waste management strategies module was developed by the Polish Food Banks.

Welcome to Food storage and food waste management strategies module.

The module is devoted to the topic of reducing food waste, which, together with the management of food surpluses, are important elements of sustainable food aid because they combine action for people in need and care for the environment. In the module, we present descriptions of various activities that can lead to reducing food waste in the overall food chain. Losses can be reduced by managing food surpluses, appropriately requesting food at places of preparation and distribution, and, ultimately, by appropriate waste segregation and recycling. Most of the materials were based on the practice of Food Banks, which mainly deal with food redistribution, i.e. recirculation of food in the supply chain. We also tried to present the perspective of other organizations and institutions in the materials, because as Food Banks, among other things, we are involved in reaching the widest possible audience with knowledge about not wasting food.
