Aim and Learning objectives

The aim of the module Food storage and food waste management strategies is to raise awareness of the problem of food waste in Europe and around the world, change attitudes towards food waste by learning about the principles of food storage and zero waste cooking, increase knowledge about legal acts in force in the European Union that determine how to safely distribute food and to advance practical ways to reduce food waste in:

  • warehouse
  • kitchen cooking meals for aid recipients
  • food distribution places (e.g. handing over food parcels)
  • canteen or place where meals are served
  • homes of food aid recipients
  • knowledge of definitions of food wastage, food waste and food loss.
  • knowledge of statistics about food waste.
  • knowledge of reasons of food wasting in household.
  • ability to present consequences of food waste.
  • knowledge of what is the EU doing to reduce food waste?
  • ability to present rules that prevent food waste and good practises of food storage in warehouses, in smaller organisations and household .
  • ability to present the main rules of receiving rescue food donations
  • ability to present redistribution network and rules of safe redistribution.
  • ability to present good practices of preventing food waste in various organizations and institutions operating models
  • ability to present alternative was to rescue food from waste
  • ability to use few recipes with the product that are commonly wasted (bread, fresh vegetables, ham, dairy products, potatoes)
